The Cia. Os Crespos arises from the meetings of black actors and actresses who attended the same Dramatic Arts School – University of São Paulo, and who presented for the first time in 2007 a reinterpretation of Quarto de Despejo [Trash Room] by Carolina de Jesus, directed by José Fernando de Azevedo, first black professor of the Dramatic Arts School.

Cartas à Madame Satã ou me desespero sem notícias suas is part of the trilogy “Dos desmanches aos sonhos” [Dreams after coming apart], which is a continuous study carried out by the group on issues concerning emotional relationships of black people in different contexts, unfolding into discussions on blackness, sexuality, family and the impact of slavery on different ways of loving . The audiovisual material was put together by means of gathered interviews and letters based on different routines, including many excerpts of black biographies of public and anonymous figures, shuffled in narratives of confessional tone to Madame Satã, mythical figure of Rio de Janeiro of the century XX. The live soundtrack moves the creation with black corporealities of the Angolan capoeira, samba circle, dance of the Orixá’s and contemporary dance. Stemming from these references arises a monologue with gesture and speech force, intersected by poetic declarations which joke with stereotypes and expose modern political issues.
