Auto da Paixão: 12 Cânticos de Amor e Morte [Auto of Passion: 12 Canticles of Love and Death]
The stage performance Auto da Paixão: 12 Cânticos de Amor e Morte arose from the exposure of sculptural works byRomero de Andrade Lima in an art gallery of an old house from the district of Jardins, São Paulo. It was created a rite concerning the path to observe the decorated retables with moments of Jesus Christ’s life, in which twelve shepherdesses walk in the streets and the ambiance of the gallery confers theatricality to the act of observing. The rite is still performed, with a repertoire based on the spirit concerning the cordel literature and the musicality of pamphlets from popular novelists of the northeast of the country. It comprises the sonority of musical exercises which served to the Armorial Movement, inaugurated by Ariano Suassuna, and which evoked the memory of Lima.
